Education & Training

Tasruzzaman Babu is a PhD student in Micro and Nanoscale Systems Engineering at Louisiana Tech University, pursuing his doctoral studies on official study deputation from Bangladesh Railway, where he has served in a senior executive-level mechanical engineering role. His doctoral research focuses on star-shaped block copolymers and ion transport mechanisms for next-generation energy storage technologies.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), Bangladesh, followed by a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. As an Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) scholar, he earned a Master of Public Policy with a concentration in Energy Policy from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies.

He is recognized for his innovative contributions to Bangladesh Railway, most notably the development of an indigenously designed automated railway turntable, reported as the first of its kind in South Asia. His contributions to engineering innovation have earned him national and international recognition, including the Best Innovator Award from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Railways, the Global Distinguished Innovator Award from the Global Innovation Institute (GInI), USA, and three Stevie Awards from Stevie Awards Inc., USA, including a Gold Stevie Award for Lifetime Achievement in Transportation Technology.

An interdisciplinary researcher, his scientific interests span nanomaterials, spectroscopy, renewable energy, and sustainable engineering. Beyond scientific research, he is also a creative writer and published author of short stories and novels, including works of science fiction and thrillers. At Louisiana Tech, he serves as a Graduate Research Assistant and Faculty Liaison on the Graduate Student Council, representing the College of Engineering and Science.

On a personal note, he has a special affection for talking parrots and cats, whose companionship he dearly misses while living far from home.
